Courtyard by Marriott Florence

I'm traveling for work and so far my stay has been great. Front desk got me checked in easily. The king sized bed was comfy and I liked the sofa. I'm very introverted and I appreciate how quiet it is. I was glad that so many restaurants were close by. The room doesn't smell like home and something I've taken to do while traveling is to carry some lavender and eucalyptus spray and just freshen up a bit but that's a personal preference. If I needed to id stay here again.

This facility looks pretty nice from outside; but staying in could be another story. On the plus side, the location is excellent, close to interstate 20 and 95, various restaurants nearby. But it is not what I expected from a Courtyard by Marriott. I am wondering how Marriott would allow such a rundown facility to operate. The elevator was not vacuumed and visible spots on the elevator floor. The bathroom floor has two big foot prints (see the pictures) when we checked in and could be easily cleaned. But no, they had to remain for the guests. The body wash bottle was empty, but housekeeping decided not to replenish it for its guests. (see the pictures) The bathtub was clogged, but no one took action to unclog it. Since it was not draining, I had to investigate. Guess what? A huge hair ball was removed from the drain. (see the pictures). Disappointed about the facility and wouldn't recommend this facility.

The staff was very nice and accommodating. However, the room needed cleaning and updates on the accommodation. See the pictures attached. Also, and most importantly, the room smelled really bad. We had to leave the sliding glass door open while we were sleeping to keep the smell down. Not quite certain, but it smelled like dog maybe. I appreciate hotels, being pet friendly, but when you don’t have a pet, you don’t wanna smell others. Also, the signs about being under renovation as mentioned in a previous review were present throughout the hotel. I don’t see any renovations occurring. There were stains around the toilet. The toilet was so low to the ground that it felt like you were falling when sitting on it. This was also mentioned in another review, and is quite obvious. I feel badly for the folks who work at this hotel, it must be depressing.

Extremely negative experience, please avoid this hotel at all expense. We made a big group reservation, it was managed so poorly that the person who arrive last didn’t have a room and had to find a different hotel in the midnight. Front desk is rude and not helpful at all. Room is terribly maintained based on most our groups feedback, for some AC cannot be adjusted since the knob is broken. Other said toilet is detached from the floor. Wi-Fi is unstable. When it comes to breakfast it’s a nightmare, there’s not buffet, one lady that is taking the order also has to go back to let the kitchen know the order, it’s extremely inefficient. Took me 40 minutes to finish my breakfast one day and most of group decided to skip or go to Hilton for breakfast instead. Break has limited options for dietary restricted group. What’s the worst is the fire alarm went on 3 times a day. Last time was midnight which pulled all the guests up from bed to downstairs. Front desk doesn’t are and have absolutely no apologies, just said it’s a false alarm again. Having been traveling for many years, this is the worst ever hotel I’ve ever stayed. Please go to Hilton across the street.

This hotel is going through a much needed renovation. Exterior is nice and fresh, but inside they have work to do. Room was worn, but clean. This is one of few Marriott properties in area close to I-95, so they charge a premium for otherwise dull hotel. But if you need to stop over around Florence are, there are not many options. The front desk recognized titanium status and provided food and beverage credit. The issue was - bistro never opened in the morning. Apparently someone did not show up to work and no one else at hotel knew how to even make a coffee and a sandwich. So between the renovation and lack of staff, this property is not a great choice. Maybe things improve after they finish the renovatio.
